Tuesday, January 26, 2021 Messages & Reminders - Report cards will be digital this year and will be able to be viewed online early next week from Feb. 1 - Feb. 5th - Wednesday students will be viewing a virtual presentation about the late French immersion program at G.P. Vanier School. Our designated school is Sir John A. Macdonald School, so more information will be available after the presentation for anyone wishing to transfer to the French program at Vanier. There will also be information posted for anyone considering transferring to the Art Centered Learning (ACL) program at Sir John Franklin School.  - Remember to track your reading for the Reading.. Give it a Shot program. For every 60 minutes of reading (with parent initials), you can earn 1 hockey card. Reading logs can be brought in any day but need to be in backpacks on the last day of the week so we can add in our class reading and count our class total.  - No school Friday, January 29. - Math Quiz tomorrow on ratios.

Friday, January 22, 2021 Messages and Reminders   - Report Cards will be digital this year and will be able to be viewed online from Feb. 1 - 5th - G.P. Vanier School Virtual Tour will be January 27th from 1:30pm - 2:30pm - Remember to track your reading for the Reading.. Give it a Shot program. For every 60 minutes of reading, you can earn 1 hockey card (the log needs to be signed by a parent). We will be tallying our reading every Friday, so make sure you bring in your reading logs at the end of every week. We will also be counting the reading we do in class.  - No school next Friday, January 29 - Math quiz on Wednesday - Ratios and Fractions - Pillars of Care winners for the month will be announced on Monday We made it through another week! Next week we will continue our learning and dive further into ratios, story writing, sky and weather science, as well as, the history of Canada and how it has shaped our Country today.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Tuesday, January 19, 2021 Reading ... Give   it   a   Shot   BHS has enrolled in the Calgary Flames  reading  program.  Students will be bringing home tracking sheets to monitor how much they read each day.  Can you please sign the spot needed if they  a re  reading   a t home?    When your child reads 60mins (1hour, in grades 5/6)   they will earn one reading card. Once they collect  a ll 24, they can move onto the bonus card collection of Harvey the Hound doing funny things! The  reading  competition starts today (Monday, January 18 th ) and ends March 26 th . Teachers will be tracking totals in order to hopefully win a virtual visit from the Calgary Flames. T he more they read… the more chance we have of the Calgary Flames visiting our school virtually!       Thank you for your support  a nd work with encouraging your child to read!     Go Flames Go! January 12, 2021 Welcome back to in person classes! We made it to 2021. Important Dates: January 29 - no school What we are learning: Language Arts -  we will be working on a Story Writing Unit  over the next couple of months where students will be learning several elements of a story (setting, plot, characters, problems, themes, etc.). We will be looking at each element in depth in order to inform our own story writing towards the end of the unit.  Math -  we are currently working on a continuation of fractions and ratios. We will be expanding on this unit in the upcoming weeks while still reviewing our basic facts and computations . Social -  we will be focusing on the history of Canada this month through a documentary series called Canada - the Story of Us . We will be watching parts of videos and doing several different activities to help us inform a small project towards the end of the month.
