Reading...Give it a Shot 

BHS has enrolled in the Calgary Flames reading program.  Students will be bringing home tracking sheets to monitor how much they read each day.  Can you please sign the spot needed if they are reading at home?  


When your child reads 60mins (1hour, in grades 5/6) they will earn one reading card. Once they collect all 24, they can move onto the bonus card collection of Harvey the Hound doing funny things! The reading competition starts today (Monday, January 18th) and ends March 26th. Teachers will be tracking totals in order to hopefully win a virtual visit from the Calgary Flames. The more they read… the more chance we have of the Calgary Flames visiting our school virtually!

What we are working on this week:


Math - continuing our exploration of fractions and how they relate to ratios


Science - we will be starting our individual research projects on Sky Science and Weather tomorrow


Social - continuing to learn about Canada's history and how that influences our lives today


LA - in story writing we have been looking closer at point of view (specifically 1st and 3rd) and character traits to be able to help us in our own stories

Grade 6 Farewell and Thank You Miss G's Speech! Well room 17, it’s been a wild ride to say the least. I know we’ve only been together since January, but we did it. To the grade sixes, who always kept me on my toes, this day is for you. I cannot believe how far you have all come in the last six months, yet it’s time for you to move on to junior high.  I truly appreciate each and every one of you and am amazed at how much I have learned from you all. Thursday, May 27th, 2021 Messages and Reminders: - Tomorrow is twin day and our virtual Pillar of Care assembly. - Spring picture day is on Monday. Spring Picture Day is coming Monday, May 31. Lifetouch donates $2 to the school for every photo taken on this day. After Picture Day, you may choose to order pictures on mylifetouch.ca using your Portrait ID and Access Code which can be found on your Picture Day order form (this will come home about a week after picture day). - Please sign the Human Sexuality waiver and send back to school before Monday. We will be starting the unit then. - Tomorrow is our last day to work on our news articles. If they are not completed students will need to complete them at home over the weekend. Tuesday, May 25th, 2021 Messages and Reminders: - Please hand in the human sexuality forms by Friday - we will be starting the unit on Monday. New forms will be sent home tomorrow for students that need them. If you already returned/emailed me with permission you do not need to do it again. - Ancient Athens test on Thursday for those students who missed it before we went online. The re-test for students wishing to take it again will also be on Thursday. - Ancient Athens brochures are due by Friday for those who missed before the break. - News Article good copy due by Friday. - Pillars of Care virtual assembly is Friday morning.
