Messages and Reminders:

- The SJAM virtual orientation for families will be Thursday, May 6 at 5:00pm. In the next few days, once they have finalized their option choices, grade six parents will receive an email with information on how to request the virtual orientation link and on how to sign up for options.

- May 5th is National Awareness Day for the Missing Indigenous Women. Please wear red in support of this initiative. 

- Next week is mental health week and we will be wearing hats to school on May 7th for the Hats On for Mental Health Day! 

- Ancient Athens unit test next Friday - study guide will be sent home early next week.

- Parents - if you missed your interviews, please call me at the school or email me if you would like to discuss anything. 

Weekly Recap:

This week we worked really hard on our Ancient Athens brochures in social and we will hopefully finish them early next week. We will be having a test on Ancient Athens next Friday as well. In science, we continued to work on flight. We are looking forward to some experiments next week and finishing up the unit. We started algebra in math this week, which wasn't as scary as we anticipated. We will be connecting algebra to our knowledge of patterns next week. Finally in language arts we have been continuing to look at news articles. 

Today we had our virtual Pillars of Care Assembly this morning. Congratulations to all the BHS winners! We also had our last day of kickball and will be moving on to

Grade 6 Farewell and Thank You Miss G's Speech! Well room 17, it’s been a wild ride to say the least. I know we’ve only been together since January, but we did it. To the grade sixes, who always kept me on my toes, this day is for you. I cannot believe how far you have all come in the last six months, yet it’s time for you to move on to junior high.  I truly appreciate each and every one of you and am amazed at how much I have learned from you all. Between keeping me up to date with video games, the latest meme, or the newest youtube sensation, I am not sure what I will do without you next year. In all seriousness, you have all taught me so much and I am grateful for the time I did have with you here at BHS. I am the most proud of you! Thursday, May 27th, 2021 Messages and Reminders: - Tomorrow is twin day and our virtual Pillar of Care assembly. - Spring picture day is on Monday. Spring Picture Day is coming Monday, May 31. Lifetouch donates $2 to the school for every photo taken on this day. After Picture Day, you may choose to order pictures on mylifetouch.ca using your Portrait ID and Access Code which can be found on your Picture Day order form (this will come home about a week after picture day). - Please sign the Human Sexuality waiver and send back to school before Monday. We will be starting the unit then. - Tomorrow is our last day to work on our news articles. If they are not completed students will need to complete them at home over the weekend. January 12, 2021 Welcome back to in person classes! We made it to 2021. Important Dates: January 29 - no school What we are learning: Language Arts -  we will be working on a Story Writing Unit  over the next couple of months where students will be learning several elements of a story (setting, plot, characters, problems, themes, etc.). We will be looking at each element in depth in order to inform our own story writing towards the end of the unit.  Math -  we are currently working on a continuation of fractions and ratios. We will be expanding on this unit in the upcoming weeks while still reviewing our basic facts and computations . Social -  we will be focusing on the history of Canada this month through a documentary series called Canada - the Story of Us . We will be watching parts of videos and doing several different activities to help us inform a small project towards the end of the month.
